pay down our debt in a way that's balanced and responsible." well, you might have guessed who this was. these are statements made by president barack obama. unfortunately the president's actions have not come close to matching his own rhetoric. since he took office, the gross national debt has increased by nearly $6 trillion. $6 trillion. indeed, the president has served at a time when we have accumulated far more debt than any other president in american history. after spending his first term maxing out america's credit card, the president is demanding yet another increase in the debt limit. the president argues he's merely asking lawmakers to pay the bills that have already been racked up. and he continues to blame others, certainly not himself, for trillion-dollar annual deficits and skyrocketing debt, but he fails to acknowledge that his stimulus bill borrowed more than a trillion dollars, increasing the debt by that amount, and secondly that obamacare will spend more than $2 trillion in its first decade. this side of the aisle, republicans have shown our willingness to pass a

president obama create his legacy which i'm sure he does not want to go down as the president that bankrupted america. so all of us around this table, regardless of our political stripes, have a great vested interest in helping him make sure that doesn't happen. and, of course, the role all of us can play in deciding what do we want to spend our government money on and be an influence so we can have our voices heard as to do we really want to send $55 million to indonesia to help improve the infant mortality rates in indonesia when we have babies here who could probably benefit from the same expenditure? i think that's about enough said. we're delighted to be a part of the american dream. i came out of the army with $800 of cumulative leave play, and the lord blessed it to get into sell of $100 million of net worth, and the success i've enjoyed comes from, i believe, three things. one is the fact that the workers or that god put in my life, 70 people who helped me pick stocks, interact with the clients and, secondly, was a hospitable governmental environment. you had a taxation and

big priority right now. we are nationbuilding here at home. something but not as candidate obama, but also candidate romney agreed upon. we are looking at unprecedented cuts and spending on national security. we are looking at the prospects of drawing down from afghanistan one of the questions that i know that we have is whether we are ready for those changes. i suspect that most of us believe that we are not. tom, maybe you can talk about the sequestration of paul ryan told us is going to happen. >> there has been a near certainty so i will talk about the sequestration per se. i really regarded as a symptom and not the disease itself. the disease itself is the erosion to the point of vanishing, almost. the bipartisan political consensus for military strength, as people used to say. that is something that over the course of my career has been a touchstone. something that people could build upon. we can argue about what kind of strength we could have come of these for forces versus those forces. but there was a broad-based bipartisan condition of the american military power was necessa

president obama promised health insurance premiums would go down. over and over again the president said that his law would lower premiums by $2,500 a family by the end of his first term in office. the president hasn't talked much about that hately. didn't hear anything about it in the inaugural address and i don't expect to hear very much about it in the state of the union. that's because average premiums across the country for families haven't gone down, not by the $2,500 that the president promised, not by even $1,000, not even by a cent. instead, average family premiums have actually gone up by more than $3,000 during the president's first term. that's pretty big math there on the part of president obama and the american people unfortunately are the ones who have to pay for his mistake. because of his policies, health insurance is a lot less affordable for a lot of people and for a the although of small businesses. -- and for a lot of small businesses. many small businesses are facing what is turning out to be an do believe decision. if they exspeed ed spanned their business and cros
